Raft Guide School 2017 (May 17-22)
5 days of raft guide training on the Chattooga, Nantahala, Pigeon and Ocoee Rivers for accepted applicants only. The course cost covers meals, boarding, classroom materials, Team shorts, tee shirt and PFD, plus transportation to the rivers where we will be training. You have the opportunity to meet and interview with each of Wildwater’s Management Team and experience the variety of white water and unique character of each of Wildwater’s Adventure Centers. While we do not guarantee employment upon completion of the course, we will endeavor to place everyone with Wildwater or will assist each Guide School candidate in placement with another rafting company. Individuals interested in attending Guide School must first fill out an employment application.
We start each day with classroom instruction, followed by on-water training. After dinner there is additional classroom training, so expect long days. Along with meeting new people, this dynamic learning experience will give you basic white water and rescue skills, communication skills and an understanding of Guest services in the whitewater industry.
Topics covered: Understanding white water, paddling strokes, raft maneuvering, river signals, communication with crews, Guest services, minimizing risks, emergency procedures and river rescue.
*Re-certification may be achieved by attending 3 consecutive, yearly single day refresher courses. Refresher courses are designed to focus on 1/3 of the course content per year, thus covering the entire course in a 3-year period. Once all 3 refresher courses are completed the student will be given a new 3-year certification card.
