White Water Rafting & Adventures in North Georgia

White water rafting in Georgia is very popular, primarily because of the National Wild & Scenic Chattooga River, located in the northeast corner of Georgia in the Blue Ridge mountains and flowing southwest. It’s location as the actual state border of Georgia and South Carolina is why you will see the Chattooga River listed as a South Carolina river and as a Georgia river. Both are correct! The Chattooga River was designated a National Wild and Scenic River status in the early 1970s, because of its striking natural beauty and at that time still undeveloped river corridor. So few rivers in the Southeast were protected and undeveloped that a movement to preserve the Chattooga for all present and future generations was successful in achieving this National Wild and Scenic River status.

Thousands of lucky adventurers get to experience the fun, excitement and exceptional beauty of the Chattooga in a completely natural state every year. Rafters will hike into the river ¼ mile because of the protected corridor along both banks of the river, on the GA and SC sides. There are 2 distinct commercial rafting sections on the Chattooga River, Section 3 and Section 4. Section 3 is for age 8 and up, Section 4 is for 12 and up. Learn more about the trips on the Chattooga River and be sure to choose the right one for your group members and experience levels.

In addition to North Georgia white water rafting on the Chattooga River, you can learn to white water kayak on gentle sections of the river and on nearby Lake Tugaloo. Summertime SUP and lake kayak tours are available daily that explore Lake Tugaloo and teach you basic paddling skills. The Chattooga ziplining happens on the Wildwater Chattooga campus with Chattooga Ridge Canopy Tours. This premier Wildwater zipline course overlooks the beautiful Chattooga River valley and Blue Ridge Mountains.
