Did you know that “Nantahala” is of Cherokee origin, meaning Land of the Noonday Sun? Because the area is a gorge, the sun has a difficult time getting over the mountain range before noon, so it stays cooler on the gorge floor which happens to be where the Nantahala River lies.
It may be too chilly in the morning out in the Nantahala Gorge to jump in a river, but we will make sure you’re out there when the sun hits the water just right. Meet us at Wildwater at 11:15 am for your guided or rental rafting trip!
