Best White Water Rafting near Asheville
White water rafting near Asheville, NC includes four wonderful rivers within an easy drive in North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia & South Carolina. Each river is quite different. The four rivers are: The French Broad River, the Big Pigeon River, the Nantahala River, and the Chattooga National Wild & Scenic River. These rivers together offer fun for ages 4+, 8+, 12+ and different sections from easygoing float trips (Lower Pigeon River) to some of the world’s best whitewater (Chattooga Section 4). Wildwater runs daily rafting trips on the Chattooga, Pigeon, and Nantahala Rivers, with the season starting in March and running into November.
Where are these rivers?
The French Broad River runs right through Asheville with tubing available, and the white water rafting section is about 30 – 45 minutes north of town. The famous Chattooga river (Southern Living’s #1 Thing for Southerners to Do!) is a beautiful 2 hour drive south west of Asheville and follows the Georgia/South Carolina border, the Big Pigeon River in Tennessee is a one hour drive northwest through a part of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and the Nantahala River is another beautiful 1+ hour drive due west to Nantahala Gorge in North Carolina.
