Wildwater is hosting the 6th Annual event, Raft For Kids’ Sake, on Saturday, August 19th at our Nantahala Adventure Center! This event is to support the Swain County Big Brother’s Big Sisters organization which pairs up “Bigs” with “Littles” to provide encouragement and friendship for youth in Swain County. Over 30 matches have been made in Swain County through Big Brothers/Big Sisters. In the traditional program, they participate in activities in our community like hiking on the parkway, playing ball, or baking cookies. In the site-based program, Bigs and Littles see each other at the child’s school or after-school program. They spend time playing games, completing homework, and having lunch together.
The Swain County School System, who endorses this program, has found that over half of the kids who have a mentor through Big Brothers/Big Sisters receive better grades, do homework more often and behave better in class. Additionally, over three quarters of the children have improved self-confidence, and improved relationships with their parents, peers and other adults. For more information on Big Brother’s Big Sisters, visit their website at http://www.bbbswnc.org/.
A portion of the Nantahala Rafting proceeds this day are going to be donated to Swain County Big Brothers Big Sisters. Join us on the 2:00 trip to celebrate the “Raft For Kids Sake” event! Not only is rafting involved, a raffle will be held after the 2:00 trip. Come join us for a fun filled day for a purpose!
Rafting reservations can be made by calling 800-451-9972 or visiting our website www.wildwater.info.
