“There are few places in the country where average Joes and Janes can play Olympian for a day, but Tennessee’s Ocoee River is one of them. This waterway hosted the whitewater events for the 1996 Olympic Games, and now, all summer long, raft companies guide aquaphiles on both the Middle and Upper sections of the river”.
The Ocoee River is one of the best adventures anyone can go on! Don’t believe us? National Geographic even says so!
Since the 1979 the Middle section of the Ocoee has been open to the public. Then in 1996 the Summer Olympics were held in Atlanta. For the Whitewater Slalom kayak and canoe course they constructed a one mile course on the upper section of the Ocoee. After the competitions the Upper Olympic Section also became open to the Public for rafting. Today the Ocoee takes over 300,000 rafters a year. Its no wonder that so many people come to the Ocoee, with the heavy hits on the Upper Section and the large wave trains on the Middle Section. The Ocoee River is a gorgeous river surrounded with the Appalachian Mountains. Besides rafting, the Ocoee area offers a great deal of Hiking up to beautiful vistas, mountain biking and Ziplining through the trees.
