“We had no idea this was here…” is the statement we get from Guests every year about our Jeep® Tours. Located only at our Nantahala and Pigeon locations, these tours are hands down a Wildwater hidden gem. For years we have focused all our efforts on being the best in guided trips, and jeep tours are just further proof of that effort. And, just to be clear, our jeep tours are not for everyone. For people who do not enjoy visiting beautiful places, you should not go on our Jeep® tours. For people who do not enjoy driving along winding roads that follow high mountain trout streams, you should not go on our Jeep® tours. For people who do not enjoy hearing the natural history of the area, plus some really cool stories, our Jeep® tours are not for you. Because, our Jeep® Tours are this and more.
Pigeon Waterfall Jeep® Tour
From high mountain views atop the famous “Rocky Top” to local lore and legend telling by our Jeep Driver, Grady James, this tour has it all. As Grady would say, “Half the people in this county don’t know what happened in these here hills.” As a lifelong resident of Cocke county Tennessee, Grady is the perfect person to share this area. His stories come not from history books, but from actual life history. After all, he was here when the area first got electricity, and his “Pa” owned the first radio in the area.
Nantahala Jeep® Tour
Our most popular Jeep® Tour; we start by tracing the Nantahala River through the mountains. Then our drivers customize the tour to our Guests’ preferences. Much like the Pigeon, this area is famous for our mountain culture, but do not think that fancy stories are all we offer. The views looking across Lake Nantahala and from atop Tellico Gap leave most people speechless. Many of our drivers at the Nantahala even have their own areas of interest or study and love to share their knowledge, whether about the local history or even the plant life in the area.
So come join us this Fall or next Spring to experience the most beautiful times in the mountains. Nothing showcases the Smoky Mountains like the changing leaves and the numerous wildflowers.
Notes: These tours are “off the beaten path” on roads less traveled but are not “4 wheeling” off road experiences. Please let your driver know your interests and preferences.
